Happy Holidays everyone! I'm taking a small break until after the holidays to go all in on trying to get Quiet Desperation printed. While I "relax" I've decided to work on a Christmas Comic that I hope to have completed by next Christmas. I'll share progress as I go along.

Today I finished the initial work on Quiet Desperation. Now I edit it and work on getting it published. I've decided to at least attempt to get a publisher interested before doing a Kickstarter or other crowd funding
site. If all else fails you will be seeing a Kickstarter for the book. I would also like to ask any artist friends who have contacts or information I could use towards my goal to please contact me. Thank you in advance for any advice or information you can share. Much love to everyone and I hope everyone has a great holiday season. I'm nearing the end of the work on Quiet Desperation. I took a small detour to draw a short comic for Cohesion Comics which is a joint venture I do with the main man, John Graham of FIGID Press. On that note, there is something coming soon from Cohesion Comics so watch for that. Today, for Quiet Desperation, I drew the great one, Jackie Gleason, so I've got that going for me. I'm now well past the deadline I set for myself to finish Quiet Desperation but I'm determined to get it done. I'm hoping to get the final product published by a big publishing company but that may be a pipe dream. We'll see.
Okay, so I'm still working on my new collection, Quiet Desperation. I have finished cleaning up the comics that I am going to include and I am now writing and drawing little in-between segments where I talk about the comics and what I was up to at the time of their creation. This may take another month or more. I really want this collection to be published by someone other than myself so I'm also working on a pitch to send to them. I imagine this may turn into a situation where I have to self-publish again but keep the hope alive lol.....
Update on the last update: I have completed cleaning up and coloring about half of the comics from my early years for the new book. It’s not a quick process sorry. I am considering calling the book Quiet Desperation. I hope to be done by the end of summer but that may be a pipe dream.
Hello kids! I just wanted to drop a quick update as to what I’m up to currently. I am currently working part-time through the summer and this has afforded me time to work on some stuff. So what is the stuff I’ve been working on? Well, recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about the past. After my younger brother Jesse passed away way too early I started to think about his archive of movie scripts and about missed opportunities. He did some great work and very few people have seen it and maybe never will. That’s sad to me. It also got me started thinking about my early ambitions to be a cartoonist and the many early comics that I drew that are also obscure, forgotten works. I doubt more than ten people have ever read these early comics so I wanted to give them one last shot for exposure. Looking over the old scans I did of these comics I found that the materials I used (a lot of felt tip markers and copy paper) weren’t the best for reproduction so I started doing some clean up work on them. I’m currently cleaning up lines, correcting misspellings, and tightening the lettering on all of these old comics. I’m adding color to all of them as none of them were originally in color. I’m trying to stay as true to the originals as possible while also trying to make them more aesthetically pleasing. With some of these there’s more fixing than with others. Some of these comics were drawn in a lined notebook with old technical pens and no regard for neat lettering so I’m practically redrawing them. It’s a chore but, so far, an enjoyable one. These touch ups are going to take awhile and I’m going to draw some intro material where I talk about my early years of artistic struggle and the different comics. When I’m done though I hope to put it all together in a trade paperback. This may be the last hurrah for my comic drawing “career”. I’ve said that before but I really think this may be it. I’m having fun now so I’ll have to re-evaluate as I go along. Stay tuned for news about this book. It may take a few months or more to complete but I’m dedicated to finishing it this year, hopefully by the end of summer.
Yeah, it's been a while. Of course COVID slowed everything down and I recently moved across country from Indianapolis, IN to Albuquerque, NM but I was never super active posting on this site to begin with so I have no real excuses. In the last post from 2019(!) I talked about finishing school, which I did. I talked about teaching art in school which I'm currently re-evaluating as I'm finding more and more that I'm not really cut out to teach young humans. Perhaps I will find a job teaching adults or college age students who are a bit more mature but, right now, I'm not looking for any teaching jobs. I also mentioned a 22 page comic that I drew for FIGID Press starring John Graham's Holiday Hooligans characters. Unfortunately, the book that was to contain said comic has yet to come to fruition. I'm not sure what the plans are for the book at this point which is a bummer because I really liked the work I did on the comic. Then there was talk of a Dragonball parody comic that I started in good faith but never finished.
That was in 2019. As I sit here today I have drawn zero new comics. I am still looking for a permanent job in Albuquerque and I'm progressively getting lazier. I find the will to draw slipping away and I don't know when or if I will delve back into drawing comics. It seems like I was only doing them for me anyway. I am photographing more than anything else, mostly street photography. You can view my photos at my website: https://www.patrickhandlonphotography.com or on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/187464056@N03/ if that's something you're into. As far as the drawing goes, I still draw, just not as voraciously as before. I have added some drawings here and made a new section just for my Halloween drawings (my favorite holiday!). I'll still post things on here when I can remember to do so but they may be few and far between, sorry. Please stop by occasionally to see new stuff but don't expect any new comics anytime soon. Maybe John Graham will let me post that Holiday Hooligans comic sometime..... Wow! A new post! Promoting my work is always the hardest part for me and remembering to pay attention to this website is a big part of that! It has been far too long since I posted here so here are the highlights of what's been happening:
1. I'm still attending the University of Indianapolis, working towards a masters in art education. I'm close to finishing and hope to teach art at either the elementary or high school level. 2. I recently finished a 22 page comic for local writer/publisher/promoter John Graham that allowed me to play in his Holiday Hooligan's world and it was a lot of fun. No idea when that will be available but stay tuned, I'm sure John will have a Kickstarter for it before the actual holidays come around. I'm currently working on a Dragonball parody comic and a half dozen other things on top of homework so it may be awhile before you see new material. 3. I am, of course, ALWAYS sketching so check out my Twitter or Instagram for new work. 4. The only show I have booked this year for personal appearances is the Indiana Toy and Comic Expo in Bloomington, IN. I don't have the time or money right now to do any more. After I graduate my con schedule may open up more. 5. Despite all of this, I am still open for commissions and work! I will make the room in my schedule for paying jobs! Okay, it's been a while since I've updated anything on this site. I've been a little busy and I didn't even realize that the lease on the domain had expired. I have some time now so I will be updating and cleaning up some stuff. I may also be changing some design elements so stay tuned.
Hello! It's the time of year to start thinking about holiday gifts and what better gift could there be than a Little Doodles t-shirt (that's a rhetorical question, I know there are better gifts but just play along okay). I am currently adding some holiday themed shirts so you can look sharp at your family holiday get togethers! There are also plenty of other cool designs for pop culture fans of all ages! Most shirts are only $18 (a little more if you, like myself, are pleasantly plump). Order your shirts now so you can get them in time for Christmas! littledoodles.sellmytees.com
