So I thought I would put a few things out there to gauge interest and maybe get some feedback. I have an idea right now for a project called Kid Comics ( the mascot is a cartoon goat) that would be graphic novel size filled with comics and activities for kids. It is the thing that I have the most ideas for right now but the problem is I have too many ideas for it. It would take me a long time to complete so I'm thinking of partnering with local artists (paying them of course) to help out. If I decided to pursue this path what do you feel would be an appropriate page rate to pay the artist(s)? Remember, I'm not DC or Marvel so it definitely can't be a crazy amount but I do want to compensate the artist(s) well. Based on the cost to complete the comic and publish it will determine whether I use outside talent or complete it on my own.
Secondly, I am thinking of making a server to house my website and maybe those of other local creators/artists. Would anyone be interested in that? Also, for my computer genius friends, is anyone willing to work with me on a project such as this? I'm just trying to see what my options are.
Finally, before the end of the year I hope to have finished the first arc of my comic Wastes of Space. When it is complete I am planning to put out a graphic novel. I want to put full page pin-ups of the characters from the comic drawn by local artists and also use these pin-ups as incentives for a Kickstarter campaign so I suppose the question is the same as before, what should I pay for these drawings? Also, if I get an artist at a con to draw my characters does the drawing then become fair use where I can use it however I want? Like, as long as they're paid for the work does it then become my property to do with as I please? I ask because I thought it would be cool to get some big talents involved as well.
